It’s the time of year that we all try to spread a bit of cheer and happiness and we wanted to do exactly that. Last week we were extremely excited to be able to hand over a cheque for £725 to Heart Heroes. We worked with Tuffley Rovers to raise the money.

This was done by selling the sponsorship boards around the football ground and the funds received from this were then donated to this wonderful charity. We’ve spoken about them before but I really wanted to take some time to talk more in-depth about what they do and how you can help.

Who are Heart Heroes?

Heart Heroes is an amazing charity that supports children who are living with congenital heart disease and other heart conditions. They also extend this support to help the families of these children. Their main goal is to allow all children, including their siblings, to be involved in their events, along with other family members such as parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and more.

They work very closely with Bristol Children’s Hospital’s Cardiac team and The CHD Network Southwest. Their long-term goal is to create hubs across the South West and grow their team to enable more families to benefit from their events.

What do they do?

To help support these families, they put on events that give them time to spend with each other and to forget about any worries, even if just for a few hours. Growing up with a heart condition will mean many hospital visits, and it’s very beneficial for children to know that they are not alone and that they have other children to share their experience with.  Heart Heroes’ events also give children an opportunity to get involved with activities that keep them engaged and give them a chance to have fun, learn new things and get excited about doing something different.

It’s not only the children who benefit, their events are also great for parents to give them other families to talk to too. It gives them a chance to share their stories and offer support, which is especially beneficial for any new families who have just started their journey.

How can you help?

There are so many ways that you can raise money for Heart Heroes. You can sign up to be a regular supporter with ‘Give as You Live’. You can also take part in the Heart Heroes 100 Club. This involves a one-off payment of £10 that enters you into a monthly draw for 12 months. First prize wins £25 and second prize wins a bottle of wine!
