I see the weather has been particularly changeable recently with

some heavy rain and high winds in evidence.

Naturally that got me thinking about signs – it’s what I do.

Put simply, your signage may be the most important factor when it comes to attracting new and old customers. For the businesses that have been impacted by storms, it's important that those customers know you are open for business (once your business is open for business that is!).

Apart from a natural disaster, how do you know when it's time to update your business' indoor and outdoor signs?

Here are 5 signs to that it might be time to get new business signs:

1. Your sign is broken or damaged

If that’s the case, then you need a new sign. Broken signs with chipped paint, weather damage, broken bulbs, or missing parts are all good reasons for updating your signage. Customers aren't attracted to broken down signs and are more likely to look at your business in a negative light. It's important to show your customers that you're committed to keeping your business looking its best.

2. Your sign was bought on a budget

As I have said, your sign is often the first thing that people will see when they set eyes on your business. If it seems cheap and only took a few minutes to create, customers will not be impressed. A well-designed sign is an investment that will repay its cost many times over.

3. Your sign is old-fashioned and outdated

As with all industries, signs follow fashions and trends and it may be time for you to get a new sign that fits with more with modern-day designs. A redesign can work wonders for you and your business.

4. Your sign isn’t appropriate for your business

Signs should explain clearly what a business is all about. If your sign is confusing customers may struggle to understand what your actually sell or manufacture. You need a sign that truly represents what you stand for and is unique and true to your business.

5. You haven’t changed your sign since you started out

You've been in business for 10 years now and you've never updated your sign. Believe me, people will notice but not in a good way. A new sign shows your commitment to keeping your business fresh and up to date.

A great sign will give a positive impression to your customers. Don't let a damaged, broken or outdated sign drive away business. Try to update your signs every few years and your business will thank you for it!
